Amanda Meyer/Presentation

Hey guys.. just wanted to let you know this is where I have decided to go with my presentation. I feel like I should keep close to the materials of the photographs, it just didn't feel right putting it in a contemporary presentation. So I have a new question now- Do you think it would be interesting to add extra items that aren't photographs into the presentation? Things like the flower drawing that I like is actually from the 50's. Just wondering...

I agree with your decision to use a more aged, vintage presentation with these photographs. Using a more modern, cutting edge type of presentation with these images would definitely take away from the aesthetic you're going for. Using the frames you've found gives them a lot more familiar feel the images, like they had been sitting in my grandparents house, common family photographs, which is obviously your intent. I'm not sure about adding in seperate artifacts, I could work, but you have to make sure they relate to the photographs you're displaying, otherwise its going to work against you by distracting and confusing the viewer. The style of frames and feel is similar but theres no real connection between the flowers and the content in the photographs.

I think the way the images are framed goes well with the aesthetic of the work. I don't know if using the flowered images are necessary - I think the style of frames give enough indication of the images being old.
I also think using the supplementary images depends on how many of your own images you print, how you display them, and how many other images you choose to use.
As of now, I don't think they are necessary because they don't seem to add to photos; just distract from them. They might go well aesthetically, but I don't think have any other purpose then that.
I was also wondering if the ones posted were final images?
I've always been slightly distracted by the image of you and the baby because I don't feel it fits with the other images. It seems to modern and snapshot-y. What I love about the other images and what really makes them successful for me, is that they look genuinely old and something worthy to hang. When people frame and hang images of family/friends, they choose a more traditional posed image as oppose to one where the person was caught off guard. Something about the facial expression or the clothes just seems off to me - especially in comparison to the image above because I think that one is perfect.

Amanda,

I like the ovaled frames a lot with your pieces. I think that they should look eclectic and have a variety of different frames but I think that keeping the matting oval as a constant could really pull the series together on the wall.
